Maintenance & Warranty Requirements
(Aligned with Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd Terms & Conditions)
Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd provides a 5-year warranty on all timber windows and doors supplied and/or installed.
Warranty coverage is conditional upon the Customer complying fully with these Maintenance & Warranty Requirements together with Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd’s Terms & Conditions.
Warranty coverage requires that all products are stored, cared for and maintained in accordance with the guidelines below.
Failure to follow these requirements may void the warranty.
1. Regular Maintenance (Every 12 Months Minimum)
Routine maintenance must include:
- Cleaning of frames, glass and drainage points.
- Lubrication of moving parts (hinges, locks, pulleys and restrictors) using a suitable light oil.
- Light adjustments to hardware where required.
- Checking paint or coating finishes for chips, cracks, splits or water ingress.
- Inspecting seals and weathering components for wear or damage.
Maintenance must be documented with dated photographs, invoices or receipts, and evidence may be requested when processing a warranty claim.
Failure to provide reasonable evidence of maintenance may affect warranty coverage.
2. Paint & Coating Care
External timber products must be redecorated as required depending on environmental exposure and weather conditions.
Properties located in coastal areas, high-exposure environments, south-facing elevations, humid environments or areas subject to increased UV exposure may require more frequent maintenance and redecoration.
Bare timber must never be left exposed. Any breakdown, cracking, peeling or failure of paint or coating systems must be repaired promptly.
Paint, stain and coating systems are considered maintenance items and require ongoing care throughout the lifespan of the product.
Failure to maintain decorative coatings may result in timber deterioration and invalidation of warranty coverage.
Where redecoration is carried out by third-party contractors, Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd may request proof of works when assessing warranty claims.
3. Weather Seals & Sash Components
Draught seals must remain clean, correctly seated and free from paint contamination.
Sash cords, balances, pulleys and moving components should be checked periodically to ensure smooth operation.
Consumable or wear-and-tear components are not covered under warranty and remain the responsibility of the Customer.
Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd may supply replacement components at additional cost.
Minor operational adjustments may periodically be required due to:
- seasonal timber movement
- settlement of the property
- environmental conditions
- normal product usage
Such adjustments form part of normal maintenance and do not automatically indicate a manufacturing or installation defect.
4. Ironmongery
All ironmongery must be cleaned, lubricated and protected from corrosion regularly.
Warranty coverage applies only to ironmongery supplied by Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd.
Wear and tear, misuse, lack of maintenance, environmental corrosion or issues arising from third-party ironmongery are excluded from warranty coverage.
5. Glazing & Misted Units
If misting occurs within the warranty period:
- A site inspection may be arranged by Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd.
- If the issue is determined to be a manufacturing or installation defect, remedial works or replacement glazing will be arranged.
- If no defect is identified, survey fees, labour costs, travel charges, wasted day rates and associated attendance costs may apply.
- Supply-only customers may be required to return the affected sash or unit to our workshop unless a paid site visit has been arranged separately.
- Glass imperfections and visual assessments shall be carried out in accordance with current Glass & Glazing Federation visual quality standards.
- Condensation is not considered a glazing defect and does not constitute grounds for a warranty claim.
6. Storage & Handling Before Installation
To protect timber products prior to installation:
- Products must be stored indoors in a dry, fully ventilated environment.
- Products must remain correctly supported to prevent twisting, bowing or bending.
- Products must be protected from impact damage, wet trades, excessive moisture and condensation.
Damage caused by incorrect storage, mishandling or site conditions shall void the warranty.
7. Moisture, Condensation & Building Works
Plastering, screeding, rendering and other wet trades create significant airborne moisture and humidity.
The Customer is responsible for:
- ensuring adequate ventilation
- maintaining suitable airflow
- using dehumidification where necessary
- protecting products from prolonged moisture exposure
Swelling, sticking, timber movement, coating failure or operational issues caused by excessive moisture or humidity are not warranty issues.
Condensation is an environmental and ventilation-related issue and does not constitute a manufacturing defect.
Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd accepts no liability for condensation caused by:
- inadequate ventilation
- property conditions
- excessive humidity
- ongoing wet trades
- lack of heating or airflow
8. Unauthorised Adjustments & Third-Party Interference
The warranty may be void if:
- Products are modified, drilled, cut or altered.
- Blinds, shutters, alarms, security devices or fixtures are incorrectly attached to frames or sashes.
- Repairs or adjustments are carried out without prior written approval from Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd.
- Third-party contractors interfere with, remove or alter installed products.
The Customer must allow Kingswood Joinery UK Ltd reasonable opportunity to inspect any alleged defect before instructing third-party remedial works.
Failure to allow inspection prior to third-party intervention may invalidate warranty coverage relating to the affected products.
9. Investigation of Faults
All warranty claims must be submitted in writing together with supporting photographs and reasonable details of the issue.
Where a site visit identifies no manufacturing or installation defect, or where issues arise due to:
- misuse
- accidental damage
- lack of maintenance
- environmental conditions
- structural movement
- damp or water ingress
- third-party contractor interference
- improper storage or handling
the Customer shall be liable for:
- call-out charges
- labour costs
- wasted day rates
- travel costs
- repair or replacement costs
Any such charges must be paid in advance before remedial works are undertaken.
